Who is Red Energy?
Red Energy is as Aussie as Vegemite and smashed avocado. They’ve been 100% Australian owned since 2004 when they were acquired by Snowy Hydro Limited, the powerhouse that taps into the mighty Snowy River for electricity.
When you give them a ring, you’re greeted by a friendly voice in Australia, making the whole experience feel like a chat with your next-door neighbour.
What makes Red Energy special?
But there’s more reason to recommend Red Energy than simply being Australian.

Red Energy has made a renewable matching promise on a number of their plans. Most Australians can join the Red Energy bandwagon with their reach covering South Australia to South East Queensland. Unfortunately, for regional Queenslanders, Taswegians, Northern Territorians, and Western Australians, Red Energy currently isn’t in your market.

Whether you’re a frequent traveller or the ultimate homebody, Red Energy has a range of energy plans available. These plans come packed with pluses, including solar feed-in tariffs and no exit fees or contract terms. But that could just be the beginning for you and Red Energy.
You could discover even more benefits from a range of Red Energy plans available in your area by giving iSelect a call or using our online comparison tool.
How much do Red Energy plans cost?
Your electricity bill from Red Energy will depend on the amount of electricity you use, along with the plan you pick. However, you could use the Default Market Offer (DMO) or Victorian Default Offer (VDO) to give you a ballpark figure to start working out your budget.
You can check the Australian Energy Regulator’s site for the current DMO prices and the Essential Services Commission’s site will have the VDO prices.
Alternatively, if you want to cut to the chase, you could use our online comparison tool to see what you could be paying on a selection of Red Energy plans, as well as compare them to options from other providers.
What are Red Energy’s solar options?
If you have a solar system soaking up the sun’s rays, Red Energy may offer you a feed-in tariff for any extra electricity you’ve made. Your rate will depend on where you live and what plan you’re on, but it could be a way to make a little extra spare change to cover your electricity needs when the sun isn’t shining (assuming you aren’t storing that excess electricity away in a battery).
How can I pay my bills?
It’s not the Stone Age so you can pay your Red Energy bill more than just via snail mail (although a cheque in the mail is still an option too). If you like, you can make payments online, the Red Energy App, over the phone, or using BPAY and PayTo. For the frequent online shopper, you can also pay in person at an Australia Post office.
Can I access my account online?
You can use Red Energy’s MyAccount feature and App to stay up to date. Let them know you’re moving, manage bills, or add new services from this streamlined and handy online account.
