Who is Oceania Insurance?
Making their debut in 2021, Oceania Insurance is a relatively new operator with a fresh take on the insurance industry. The team at Oceania Insurance believe that life should be about enjoying its best moments, and not about spending time on hold with customer service.
So, Oceania Insurance decided to adopt a digital first approach. The insurer uses live chat and online support to bring efficiency and convenience to their customer service.
Oceania Insurance is backed by Auto & General, who has been meeting the insurance needs of more than a million Aussies since 2000.

What car insurance policies does Oceania Insurance offer?
Oceania Insurance offers the typical trio of car insurance policies dressed up in the insurer’s overarching ‘digital first’ theme.
Digital First Comprehensive
The most popular level of car insurance among Oceania Insurance’s customers, comprehensive offers the highest level of cover, including loss or damage to your car and new car replacement if your car becomes a total loss within two years or 40,000km (whichever comes first) of the original registration. With Oceania Insurance’s comprehensive cover, you have the option to pay a higher excess to reduce your premium and can even add-on optional extras like reduced window glass excess.
Digital First Third-Party Property, Fire, and Theft
With Oceania Insurance’s third party property, fire and theft cover, you’ll be covered if you cause damage to another person’s property, including their car. Plus, if your car is damaged by fire or is stolen, you’ll be covered for the cost of repairs or replacement, towing and up to $1,500 for a hire car following theft.
Digital First Third-Party Property Only
If your car causes accidental damage to someone else’s car or property, you’ll be covered for up to $20 million for legal liability with Oceania Insurance’s third party property insurance.
While these details provide a snapshot of the different levels of cover Oceania Insurance offers, it’s always a good idea to read through the product disclosure statement (PDS) to understand what’s covered by your policy, as well as any general exclusions.
Helpful tip
If you’re involved in a crash with another driver, it’s important that you try to collect as much information about the incident as you can – photos, location and the other driver’s details (including their driver’s licence and number plate). When you make your claim, these details can help Oceania Insurance determine whether or not you’re at fault.
Frequently asked questions
Will Oceania Insurance cover me anywhere in Australia?
Yes. You can get Oceania Insurance to cover you and your car regardless of where you live in Australia. Oceania Insurance’s comprehensive policy will pay you up to $1,000 if your caravan or trailer, while attached to the insured car, is damaged in a collision. If your comprehensively insured car is damaged and undriveable, you are covered for emergency transportation and accommodation costs. Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply. See PDS for details.
How do excesses work with Oceania Insurance?
An excess is an amount you agree to pay your insurer if you need to make a claim. With Oceania Insurance’s comprehensive cover, you can adjust your excess amount. If you can afford to pay a higher excess in the event of a claim, you will enjoy lower premiums in return.
With Oceania Insurance, like many other insurers, you may need to pay a basic excess for any claims that you make – except when you’re involved in a no fault accident*. Additional excesses may apply if your car is involved in an accident while being driven by a person who:
- is not listed driver on your policy
- is under 25 years of age
- has not held a full or open Australian licence for two or more years.
You’ll even come across reduced window glass excess option with Oceania Insurance’s comprehensive car cover.
*An accident where, given all available evidence, it is reasonable for Oceania to decide the driver of another vehicle, or another person, is entirely at fault, and you tell them, or they can obtain, their full name, residential address and vehicle registration number.
